*Colorado football coach Deion Sanders has been sidelined by an undisclosed medical condition, prompting him to step away from his duties as the Buffaloes’ summer football camps kicked off last week.
Currently at his Texas estate, Sanders is focusing on his health, though details about his condition remain sparse, according to a source cited by ESPN. The 57-year-old coach’s absence was first noted by USA Today, which reported that Sanders has been grappling with an “unspecified health issue.”
His eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., provided a brief update during a YouTube livestream from the family’s Texas home on Sunday, stating, “He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he’s going through, what he went through.”
He added that his father was “feeling well” but offered no specifics on when the coach might return to Boulder. “When we get back to Boulder, I don’t know,” Deion Jr. said. “I’m waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I’ll go. Until then, I’m going to sit here with him.”

Sanders’ health challenges have also led to changes in his public schedule. He was set to deliver a keynote address at the Sickle Cell Disease Research and Educational Symposium in Florida on June 8 but canceled due to what the organization described on X as an “unavoidable last-minute scheduling change.”
The post expressed gratitude for Sanders’ support, noting, “We are grateful for his support and look forward to future opportunities to welcome him.”
This isn’t the first time Sanders has faced health setbacks. In 2022, he underwent surgery that resulted in the amputation of two toes on his left foot due to blood clots from a prior procedure. The following year, he had another surgery to address clots in both legs.
Sanders hinted at a health concern during a recent podcast with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel, though he kept details private, according to USA Today.
