*Deion Sanders has solidified his future at the University of Colorado, securing a contract extension that keeps him with the Buffaloes through the 2029 season.
According to ESPN, the Pro Football Hall of Famer has signed a five-year, $54 million deal. Under the terms of the agreement, Sanders will earn $10 million in 2025 and 2026, followed by $11 million in 2027 and 2028, before reaching $12 million in 2029. This contract positions him as the highest-paid football coach in the Big 12.
The deal also includes a substantial buyout clause, requiring Sanders to pay $12 million if he leaves before the end of 2025. The buyout decreases over time, dropping to $10 million in 2026, $6 million in 2027, $4 million in 2028, and $3 million in 2029. However, if he chooses to retire rather than take another coaching job, he will not owe any damages to the university.
Sanders expressed his enthusiasm about the extension, saying in a statement, “I’m excited for the opportunity to continue building something special here at Colorado.”
“We’ve just scratched the surface of what this program can be. It’s not just about football; it’s about developing young men who are ready to take on the world,” he added.

“I’m committed to bringing greatness to this university, on and off the field. We’ve got work to do, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but here, making history with these incredible players and this passionate fan base. Lastly, has anybody got at least a five-bedroom home with acreage for sale?”
Since his arrival, Sanders has dramatically improved Colorado’s football program. In 2024, he led the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record and an appearance in the Alamo Bowl.
