*The WNBA has gained unprecedented visibility in 2024 with rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, however, WNBA legend Cynthia Cooper highlights Arike Ogunbowale as another standout player this year.
Known for her scoring ability and clutch performances, Ogunbowale, 27, who plays for the Dallas Wings, ranks fourth in WNBA history with an impressive 20.5 points per game and continues to shine in key matchups and All-Star games.
“Arike playing against USA basketball and how she put on a show. That’s who the WNBA is, those are the players and the teams we should rally around and continue to pump them up and promote them,” Cooper said in a recent appearance on the Come And Talk 2 Me podcast.
Essentially Sports reports that Ogunbowale secured the 2018 National Championship for Notre Dame by hitting consecutive game-winning shots. After graduating in 2019, she was picked fifth overall in the WNBA draft by Dallas. Two years later, she earned her first All-Star Game MVP, and three years after that, she won the award again, making her the only WNBA player to achieve this feat twice.
The basketball star previously told PEOPLE that the WNBA’s reach has expanded, thanks to the streaming of the 2023 season.

“There are definitely a lot more games on TV, which is good, and bringing a lot more visibility,” Ogunbowale said in August 2023. “People are watching it because it’s accessible.”
“So, just the accessibility of the league now and how to watch games is great. It used to be pretty hard. People are loving the accessibility,” she added.
Earlier this year, Ogunbowale announced her engagement to her girlfriend Lala Ronay, posting a video of her proposal to Instagram on May 19. Watch the clip below.
