*BET has announced it will not produce additional seasons of “106 & Sports,” the network confirmed in a statement to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The previous season, however, will remain available across BET platforms for viewers to stream.
According to the outlet, the decision comes after leadership changes at BET, including the departure of longtime president and CEO Scott Mills last fall following Skydance’s acquisition of parent company Paramount. New BET president Louis Carr is steering the network toward a programming strategy that emphasizes culturally resonant content. Upcoming projects include “The Coach Vick Experience,” featuring NFL icon Michael Vick.
“106 & Sports” was a spin-off of BET’s popular 2000s and early 2010s show “106 & Park.” Hosted by Cam Newton and journalist Ashley Nicole Moss, the program combined sports, music, and entertainment, aiming to carry forward the cultural impact of its predecessor while creating a space specifically for sports fans. BET’s vice president of unscripted programming, Tiffany Lea Williams, explained that the series was designed to honor “106 & Park” while emphasizing the importance of sports in Black culture.
Newton expressed enthusiasm for the series when it was first announced in 2025, drawing parallels to the original show’s impact. “When I think about 106 & Park, I remember how it was a voice for the culture. It gave artists and fans a place to connect. Now, we’re doing the same thing for sports,” he said in a statement.
“106 & Sports is where you’ll get the real talk, the authentic insights, and the kind of conversations you won’t find anywhere else. I’m excited to team up with Ashley and BET to build something special, something that honors that legacy while creating a new one,” Newton added.
The production required a significant budget, especially when compared to the smaller-scale video podcasts gaining popularity. Its elaborate set included large LED displays, multiple audience bleachers, and a control room with more than 20 staff members.
“Under the new leadership of BET President Louis Carr, BET is redefining its programming strategy which will continue to support culturally resonant storytelling,” the network’s said.
BET’s decision reflects broader trends in the media industry, as networks face shrinking audiences and rising costs while digital platforms and leaner productions gain prominence.
