The actor’s death was confirmed by publicist Erica Huntzinger, who reported that Evans “passed away peacefully” while surrounded by family. The specific cause of death has not been disclosed but highlights a life well-lived in the performing arts.

Born Arthur James Evans on March 27, 1942, in Berkeley, California, Evans’ journey in acting began early in his life. He studied drama at Frank Silvera’s Theater of Being in Los Angeles, which laid the foundation for an impressive career that spanned more than four decades. His professional stage debut came in the Los Angeles production of “The Amen Corner,” which would later move to Broadway in 1965, marking the beginning of a vibrant stage career.

Evans eventually transitioned into film and television, showcasing his versatility in a wide array of roles. He delivered a notable performance as Blind Lemon Jefferson in the film “Leadbelly” (1976) and was featured prominently in critically acclaimed works such as “A Soldier’s Story” (1984), “Fright Night” (1985), and the comedic gem “Ruthless People” (1986).
Perhaps his most recognized role was as Leslie Barnes, an air traffic controller, in “Die Hard 2” (1990), where he assisted Bruce Willis’s John McClane in thwarting terrorists.
Beyond his film accomplishments, Evans graced the small screen with appearances in numerous acclaimed series, including “MA S*H,” “Hill Street Blues,” “The X-Files,” and “Monk.” His memorable character portrayals extended to “A Different World,” where he played Mr. Johnson, the father of Ron Johnson, showcasing his broad acting range.
