*Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas of TLC fame shared that her spiritual journey through Bible study has reshaped her views on love and commitment.
Vibe reports that she now values a deeper spiritual connection in relationships over traditional notions of romance. During an appearance on 107.9 Atlanta’s Chosen Journey Show, she expressed excitement about marrying her longtime partner, actor Matthew Lawrence.
“Before reading the Bible all the way through…I didn’t want to get married,” she explained.
“I think it was really scary to me because I still, before reading the word understood that, you know, God created marriage. So, I mean, it’s serious. I took it that serious to not ever marry during those years of my life,” she added, before admitting that she believed a marriage would end in divorce.
When asked when she’d be walking down the aisle the singer responded “soon.”

When the artist appeared on “Tamron Hall” in 2023, Chilli opened up about her romance with Lawrence, saying: “I can’t even help it, he always puts the grilled cheese on my face. I think it has so much to do with the fact that, and again,. On my show, I always hoped that women would see the importance of having high standards and I got a lot of flack from that but I don’t care, you know, and for me, I just waited it out like ‘Lord, if it happens, wonderful. If it doesn’t, I’m still ok.’ I’ve never been the one that’s like hard up, ‘Oh I gotta be in a relationship’ or ‘I gotta be married’ all this, I wanted it to be right. And so Matthew, honestly, he is the list. I can’t even say, this or that, he is my entire list. And so I thank God everyday for him.”
Meanwhile, Chilli’s son, Tron Austin, previosuly said he supports his mother’s relationship with the actor/singer.
“Oh man, I just like seeing her happy, you know? As someone who is now five years into my relationship, I love seeing humans connect and witnessing that genuineness. I feel that from him,” said Austin in a 2023 interview with PEOPLE.
At the time, Tron admitted that he had only met Matthew in person a few times.
“We’ve only met a couple of times because they’re really building their relationship since she’s very careful about that kind of stuff,” said Austin. He also noted that Chilli’s willingness to go public with the relationship “shows me that this is a very special person in her life,” he added.
