*Sunny Hostin, co-host of “The View,” has responded to a lawsuit accusing her husband, Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, of insurance fraud.

The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Hostin provided fraudulent medical services and billed insurance company American Transit through fraudulent claims. Sunny accused American Transit of attempting to avoid paying for medical and surgical procedures for people it insured and of using her celebrity status to smear her husband’s reputation.

Dr. Hostin, a New York City orthopedic surgeon and owner of Hostin Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, is one of nearly 200 individuals named in the federal lawsuit, Entertainment Weekly reports. The complaint alleges that Dr. Hostin,  owner of his Hostin Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine practice, knowingly provided fraudulent medical services, including arthroscopic surgeries, and billed insurance company American Transit through fraudulent claims, receiving kickbacks disguised as dividends. American Transit, which works with Uber, Lyft, and taxi drivers, claims insurance fraud is widespread in New York due to the state’s No-Fault law.

The 698-page complaint alleges that Dr. Hostin “knowingly provided fraudulent medical and other healthcare services including arthroscopic surgeries to Covered Persons through Hostin Orthopaedics” and fraudulently billed American Transit for the costs. He allegedly perpetrated this fraud “in exchange for kickbacks and/or other compensation which were disguised as dividends or other cash distributions.”

In a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Sunny said the plaintiff filed the suit “to avoid paying for medical and surgical procedures for people it insured who were in pain. This company has a history of filing frivolous claims, has been investigated by New York State and has been sued by Uber Technologies.”

Hostin alleges that American Transit is “on the verge of bankruptcy,” and by naming her husband in the lawsuit, is attempting “to poison the well of public opinion because it does not have a valid case.”

She accuses the company of using her “celebrity status” as part of its “disgusting media smear campaign against my husband,” which she described as “a frantic attempt to not pay its bills.”

“Our family will not be intimidated and harassed. We remain unbowed,” she said.

“We have put American Transit on notice and will file a five-million-dollar counter lawsuit for their defamatory claims, an amount that is likely to increase as the reputational damage that American Transit has intentionally caused is difficult to quantify at this time,” Hostin continued in her statement.

She demanded American Transit to “withdraw these false allegations, pay my husband what he is owed and issue a public apology.”

“Let me be clear, where I come from, American Transit will receive a PhD from FAFO University,” Hostin concluded.

“FAFO” stands for “f–k around and find out.”
