*On a recent episode of IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama tackled swirling divorce rumors with humor and candor.
Joined by Michelle’s brother, Craig Robinson, the couple addressed speculation about their 32-year marriage. As Vibe reports, Robinson playfully asked, “Wait, you guys like each other? It’s so nice to have you both in the same room together.” Michelle responded, “I know because when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.” Barack jokingly added, “She took me back! It was touch and go for a while.”
The divorce speculation intensified when Michelle skipped President Donald Trump’s recent inauguration, prompting assumptions about her marriage. On her IMO podcast in April, she addressed the backlash, saying, “My decision to skip the inauguration – or my decision to make choices at the beginning of this year that suited me – were met with such ridicule and criticism. People couldn’t believe that I was saying no for any other reason. They had to assume that my marriage was falling apart.”
Sources close to the couple have dismissed the separation claims, noting Michelle’s enjoyment of life outside Washington, D.C., as she attends events independently.
Craig shared a lighthearted anecdote about a woman at an airport who asked what Barack had done to upset Michelle. He teased, “Well, what makes you think he messed up?” before adding, “I wanted to keep this conversation so that I could tell you about it.” Barack, amused by the gossip, admitted, “These are the kinds of things that I just miss. So I don’t even know this stuff’s going on and then somebody will mention it to me and I’m like what are you talking about?”

Michelle firmly dismissed any notions of divorce, emphasizing the strength of their bond. “There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I’ve thought about quitting on my man,” she said. “And we’ve had some really hard times and we’ve had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
The former first lady also addressed persistent speculation about her marriage on her IMO podcast. As USA Today reports, Michelle debunked divorce rumors during a May 1 episode of The Diary of a CEO with host Steven Bartlett. “If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,” she stated, noting that her brother “would know it” too.
