*Owners of the Tennessee Titans want a new $2.1 billion football stadium in Nashville, but they want to pay for it with OPM – other people’s money. So we have to ask: should taxpayers fund NFL Titans stadium?
Those ‘other people’ include taxpayers in Nashville and throughout Tennessee, which could amount to more than $1 billion, nearly half the cost! The NFL and the owners of the Titans are millionaires. A majority of Tennessee residents are not. That’s the first issue I have with this plan.
The second issue: For the past 25 years (at least) Tennessee legislators have underfunded Tennessee State University – my alma mater – by more than $2 billion. For a long time, it’s been evident the supermajority Republican legislature DGAF about Black people in general and TSU in particular.
