*Amazon MGM Studios Presents released a new trailer for filmmaker Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” starring Zendaya.
The romantic sports comedy film follows “three players who knew each other when they were teenagers as they compete in a tennis tournament to be the world-famous grand slam winner and reignite old rivalries on and off the court,” per the official synopsis.
Zendaya stars as Tashi Duncan, “a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to a champion on a losing streak (Mike Faist – West Side Story), Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (Josh O’Connor – The Crown) – his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win,” the description states.
Guadagnino previously praised Zendaya for learning tennis skills for the role in “Challengers.”
“She’s wonderful,” Guadagnino told Variety at the 2022 Academy Museum Gala.
“I mean, wow. We edited the movie and we almost actually don’t use any of her double. She’s so good,” he continued.
“They spent like three months working very hard,” Guadagnino shared. “Everybody – technically, athletically.”
The first official trailer for “Challengers” was released in June 2023 — watch it below.
“Challengers” arrives in theaters on April 26.
