*Marlon Wayans appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast and explained why his family left the popular sketch comedy show “In Living Color.”
The series originally ran on Fox for five seasons from 1990-1994. Keenen Ivory Wayans created, wrote, and starred in the program that featured members of the Wayans family—Damon, Kim, Shawn, and Marlon—and served as their big break.
Despite the “big checks,” Marlon said his family walked away from the show after a falling out with the network.
“I remember when we left In Living Color because Fox was syndicating the show and it was hurting Keenen’s pockets,” he recalled on Club Shay Shay, Deadline reports. “Keenen was like, ‘Nah, you ain’t gonna do this to me.’ My family said, ‘F— this money.’ And we all left In Living Color.”

“In Living Color” continued for one more season without the Wayans brothers.
“I’m still a brother after this,” Marlon continued. “No, I’m gonna support my brother. And we all left the show. And that’s why season five, it got weird. It got Biz Markie. God bless Chris Rock, [but] he came at the wrong time. As brilliant as he is, he couldn’t save it. Because the eyes of the show is gone.”
On Thursday, Marlon took to Instagram to proudly share the success of his interview with Shannon Sharpe, highlighting its impressive viewership.
“Someone once laughed at a ‘Marlon Wayans’ 1.4 million views in 24 hours. That I could only pull 300k views. I guess the juice is worth the squeeze,” he wrote on Instagram.
He was referring to DJ Vlad who previously mocked the actor/comedian for demanding $40,000 to do an interview.
We reported earlier that Vlad and Wayans sparred on social media last month over the interview fee. Vlad said no one “is going to pay Marlon $40K for an interview” after an X user told the Wayans “@djvlad would have to pay me 500,000 for an interview with 55% of all revenue made from the video on all platforms!”
Marlon responded to the tweet, writing, “??? see i tried to tell him I was giving him a deal… oh well.”
DJ Vlad clapped back, tweeting, “Marlon Wayans found someone with 200 followers to agree with him. LOL. Nobody on earth is going to pay Marlon $40K for an interview when he gets 100k-300k views on any platform he interviews on. This guy is really delusional.”
Yes, that’s clear. Here’s a slightly refined version for added clarity:
Within just 8 hours of its release, Marlon’s Club Shay Shay interview surpassed 700,000 views. As of 24 hours later, it has now exceeded 2 million views.
In the comments of Marlon’s IG post, director Deon Taylor wrote, “King — we never doubted you !! And we all absolutely understand who you are and your worth to our culture and our people you are legendary and your daily and brand is royalty !!! With all due respect F%%% anybody that thinks we have to prove who we are to them !! We have to deal with this every day —- meanwhile — who is he ? I’ll wait. Love”
