*We caught up with talented young actress Kamryn Smith to dish about her role in the highly anticipated AppleTV+ series “Yo Gabba GabbaLand!,” inspired by the hit, Emmy Award-nominated cultural phenomenon “Yo Gabba Gabba!”
Kamryn, who stars as the lively and enthusiastic host of the show, shared her excitement about bringing the beloved characters and whimsical world of Yo Gabba Gabba! to a new generation of young viewers. She discussed how the series aims to teach life lessons through fun, music, and dance, creating an engaging and educational experience for kids and families alike.
“‘Yo Gabba Gabba” premiered its first episode on Nickelodeon in 2007 and ran until 2015. In a recent interview, co-creators Scott Schultz and Christian Jacobs discussed their approach to the show’s new iteration for a fresh audience.
“Going into this, the key fundamentals were that we wanted to retain the essence of the old show—the same characters and the same love—but we aimed to expand it,” said Schultz.
“We wanted to take the imagination of this land, which was once just on a table, and turn it into something infinite, something that could be much more than you could even see into the distance,” he continued.
“It was no easy task, but really, the land was one of the main things from the very start. We asked ourselves, ‘How can we achieve that?’ Technically, it was nearly impossible until now to expand it to that level,” Schultz said.
Jacobs added, “Reimagining the show, so to speak, has been really exciting… Even in the making of the show, we had people on the crew who had grown up watching it, including Kammy, our host. For Scott and me, we didn’t want to create a different show per se because if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Instead, we aimed to make it bigger and better—expanding it into something vast and infinite.”
“Yo Gabba GabbaLand!” is a delightful series that the whole family will enjoy because it combines vibrant animation, catchy music, and valuable life lessons. With its engaging and whimsical storytelling, the show captivates young viewers while also offering nostalgic elements for fans who loved the original “Yo Gabba Gabba!” series.
