*Funk Flex threatened to expose former rapper Shyne after the trailer dropped for his upcoming documentary, “The Honorable Shyne.”
According to Flex, Shyne is lying about the circumstances surrounding his involvement in the Diddy nightclub shooting in 1999. As we reported earlier, the ex Bad Boy Records artist will unpack the controversial case that put him behind bars for nearly a decade in a new Hulu documentary. The synopsis for the project reads: “His journey is one of redemption, resilience, and transformation. This documentary provides an intimate look at Shyne’s personal evolution as he navigates fame, incarceration and a return home to Belize, where he finds new purpose and strives to lead his country to a brighter future.”
In the trailer, the rapper-turned-politician says, “I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy” for the crime.
“I spent 10 years in prison, but I was able to move on,” Shyne explains in the clip. “There’s a time to pivot, there’s a time to transition.”
Shyne (born Jamal Barrow) previously opened up about being Combs’ “fall guy” in the infamous nightclub shooting also involving Jennifer Lopez.
We reported earlier that one of the shooting victims, Natania Reuben, has for years asserted that it was Diddy, not Shyne, who shot her during an altercation between the rap mogul and Club New York patron Matthew Allen, resulting in injuries to three individuals, including herself. Lopez was arrested and released, while Diddy was acquitted of all charges. Shyne, however, served an eight-year prison sentence. In 2011, Combs settled civil suits with the victims, paying over $2.3 million.
In a clip from the trailer, Diddy insists he was innocent of the shooting. “I had nothing to do with a shooting in this club,” he said in footage from a press conference.
When Flex watched the trailer, he threatened to expose Shyne, alleging that he wasn’t telling the whole truth.
“When somebody tries to say they the scapegoat or they was used… it’s been bothering me,” said Flex during his on-air rant. “And I’m gonna keep it a buck. Shyne, I love you bro, and I know what you’ve been though—no I don’t—but you’re a liar. You’re a stone-cold faced liar, Shyne.”
He continued, “First of all, you remember when D-Rock had to beat you up in that studio ’cause you were feeling yourself? You lucky you signed to Bad Boy ’cause if you did not sign to Bad Boy and you signed to Def Jam or anywhere else they were gonna pound you out like the day they beat you up at that studio.”

According to Flex, Shyne pulled the trigger during the nightclub shooting. “Let me tell you about that night in that club. I don’t know what people are talking about Shyne was the streets. He was a punk. So all of that street talk. You don’t ever come my way with that. Puff had to keep people off of you from beating you to death. Had to keep D Rock from strangling you, Shyne,” Flex recounted.
“Let me tell you something, New York, about Shyne that night in that club. He knew exactly who those guys were that he got into a situation. It was his situation, not anybody else’s,” he continued. “This ain’t about Puff, It’s about the Notorious B.I.G. and you sounding like him and you trying to act like you were in demand and you was somebody. You a punk, and you shot that gun off that night because you was scared.”
As Flex explained, Shyne owed the group money for studio time and was so afraid of them that he pulled out his gun and started shooting.
“Puff had to beg me to play them records. Nobody was rocking with you,” Flex said. “Sounding like Biggie, just die. You thought you were gonna step out here in these streets, and nobody was gonna check you. I’m gonna check you, man.”
Funk Flex also noted that Shyne was present when New York Mayor Eric Adams presented Diddy with the keys to the city earlier this year.
“The Honorable Shyne” debuts on Hulu on November 18. Watch the trailer below.
