*Wayminute! Yes, you read that headline correctly. Dr. Dre, the legendary producer and rapper, is setting his sights on the highest level of athletic achievement: the Olympics.
Known for his pioneering role in hip-hop, Dr. Dre took center stage once again during the 2024 Olympic Closing Ceremony, joining long-time friend and collaborator in Los Angeles Snoop Dogg for a show-stopping performance. But now, Dre has his eyes set on a different stage for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angelesβthis time as a competitor in archery.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dre revealed his ambitious goals. βIβm trying to try out for the Olympics in 2028,β he said with a serious gaze, despite light-hearted jokes about this year’s viral breakdancing sensation Raygun. He clarified, βIβm dead-ass serious,β about his desire to compete in archery.
This aspiration may seem to come out of left field for many of his fans but, as Dre explained in the interview, archery has been a part of his life for quite some time.
βActually, I started playing around with archery in junior high, alright? I stopped for a while, and my son bought me a set-upβ¦ I donβt know if it was for my birthday or Fatherβs Day or something like that. So I have it set up in my backyard,β he shared.

The rap mogul also mentioned that he practices at a distance of 90 feet, even though the Olympic qualifying distance is 77 feet. Confident in his skills, Dre added, βYeah, wouldnβt that be interesting to go, especially with it being here in LA, and win a gold medal?β His determination shone through as he concluded, βI feel like I can do anything.β
Dr. Dre’s transition from music to sports is certainly uncharted territory, but his passion and commitment are unmistakable. Should he qualify, his participation would add a fascinating chapter to both his career and the history of the Olympics.
As the music icon navigates his path from beats to bows, fans and spectators alike will be watching with keen interest. Many are already excited about the possibility of seeing one of hip-hop’s most influential figures transform into an Olympian athlete.
The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will undoubtedly be special for many reasons, not least of which might be the unique participation of Dr. Dre. Should he achieve his goal, it would be a testament to the power of persistence, versatility, and a reminder that itβs never too late to pursue new dreams. In this extraordinary journey, Dr. Dre might just prove that whether on the stage or the sporting arena, true talent knows no bounds.
