Nearly seven years after Marvel announced Mahershala Ali would star as Blade, the Oscar-winning actor says the project stalled because the studio never got it off the ground.
Speaking with GQ, Ali said he believes the film would have happened if Marvel truly wanted to make it.
“You had me under contract, they have billions of dollars, if they wanted to do the movie, we would’ve done the movie,” Ali said. “I feel ready to move on from the Blade questions. Those questions are for them.”
Ali was first introduced as Marvel’s new Blade during the studio’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, generating enormous excitement among fans. Since then, his only appearance has been a voice-only cameo during the post-credits scene of “Eternals.”

Courtney Clenney Reaches Plea Deal in Christian Obumseli Case
Courtney Clenney has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in the 2022 fatal stabbing of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, avoiding what was expected to be a closely watched murder trial.
According to TMZ, the details of the agreement will be disclosed during a sentencing hearing scheduled for Aug. 10.
Larry Handfield, the attorney representing Obumseli’s family, said Clenney’s decision to plead guilty and accept responsibility marks the beginning of a long-awaited path toward closure.
Clenney had faced a murder charge that carried a potential life sentence after prosecutors alleged she fatally stabbed Obumseli during an altercation inside their Miami high-rise apartment. She has maintained that she acted in self-defense.
TMZ also reported that Obumseli’s family has settled its wrongful death lawsuit against the apartment building where the couple lived.
Shemar Moore’s Home Visited by Alleged Catfishing Victim
Shemar Moore unexpectedly became part of a real-life drama when a woman allegedly showed up at his Los Angeles-area home carrying luggage.
According to reports, Moore’s partner, Jesiree Dizon, answered the door and asked the woman to leave before contacting police.
The woman reportedly told officers she had traveled from out of state after someone posing as Moore online promised she could live with him. Authorities concluded she had apparently been the victim of a catfishing scheme.
Jesiree declined to pursue criminal charges, and officers completed a trespass report before releasing the woman without further incident.
Moore’s representatives had not publicly commented on the unusual encounter at the time of publication.
