Dre supports Spicer’s proposed plan for becoming the city’s next mayor, 2urbangirls.com reports. His donation appears on the Spicer for Mayor 2026 campaign finance reports.
In 2022, Spicer became the newest councilman to represent Compton’s second district amid an election rigging scandal. At the time, the Compton native said, “We have worked so hard and tirelessly to prove our case and represent for a community who needed it the most,” Spicer told Los Angeles magazine.
“Today is a new beginning for not only myself but [the] 25,000 residents that have been pleading for change,” the entrepreneur added.
“While I am on cloud 9 today, I am ready to get to work immediately to make change to a community I have loved and represented for so long already,” Spicer continued.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dre and music producer Jimmy Iovine recently partnered with Atlanta Public Schools to launch an innovative learning center.
The Frederick Douglass High School will house the Iovine and Young Center, “designed to combine a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum with real-world opportunities,” per Atlanta News First.
“We believe we’re going to give these kids an advantage, a different type of education,” Iovine said at the press conference on Aug. 28, 2023. “So, you all can sell these kids, go out there and say you want these kids. Because the modern job needs these kids. That’s why.”
Iovine introduced the program at the press conference with Atlanta producer Dallas Austin. Dre was not present at the event.
“Me and Dre think big. We think everybody in the world’s going to learn like this… well, maybe!” Iovine added, “We never thought everybody in the world would wear our headphones, but they did.”
