*The New York City community of Harlem is reeling after video footage surfaced showing a home health care aide viciously attacking 95-year-old Dorothy Foye in her own home. Recorded by Nest and Ring cameras, the video captured the aide repeatedly hitting Foye, including striking her with a pot, as the frail woman clung to her walker.
The elderly woman’s family was horrified as the scene unfolded live on their phones.
“I heard this woman screaming at her, cursing, saying the most obscene things,” recalled Tiffany Mitchell, Foye’s granddaughter.
“She was cursing her out… taking water bottles and juice bottles and cans and throwing them at my grandmother.”
According to Mitchell, the assault was continuous and terrifying.
“She was just, like, walking around, she would toss something, then she would disappear,” she explained, reports CBS News New York.
Despite her fragile state, Foye tried valiantly to defend herself. “I was trying to fight back, but, you know, I’m weak. I can’t fight that big woman,” she said in a trembling voice.
Mitchell described the scene of her defenseless grandmother trying to maintain her balance as “like a helpless baby.” Foye, who relies on an oxygen tank and walker, could hardly defend herself against the unrelenting attack.
The incident occurred a week ago today, leaving Foye with persistent aches, and pains, and an arm she can barely lift. “If I said I feel good, I’d be lying,” she admitted.
In a display of remarkable spirit, Foye expressed a desire for retribution.
“I would like to beat her myself. Get somebody to beat her like she did me,” she asserted.
The family has since hired a new caregiver from a different agency. Medflyt, which touts itself as “The Best Home Care Agency in New York City,” is responsible for the abusive aide, and has launched an internal investigation.
Police are also investigating, but no arrests have been made so far. The family is calling for justice and accountability not only for the assailant but for Medflyt as well.
