Cynthia Bailey On Grief & Loss in ‘BMF’ S3 | EURexclusiveWATCH

*As season three of Starz’s “BMF” unfolds, viewers are introduced to Cynthia Bailey‘s character, Gloria Bryant, who finds herself embroiled in the turmoil surrounding her son, Kevin, played by Jerel Xavier Austin.

In a recent interview with EURweb, Bailey and Austin shed light on their characters’ emotional journeys and the impact of loss and grief on the show. This interview contains spoilers.

Bailey, known for her role in “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” steps into the shoes of Bryant, Detective Von Bryant’s ex-wife, who becomes increasingly concerned about her son’s precarious situation in jail. Reflecting on her portrayal of Gloria, Bailey draws parallels between her character and her own experiences as a mother.

“As a mother, it was obviously very easy for me to tap into this role because I am the mother of a 24-year-old daughter, Noelle,” Bailey explained. “I’m always coming from a place of love and protection.”

Gloria’s story revolves around her decision to entrust her son’s care to Detective Bryant, played by Steve Harris. However, as Kevin’s troubles escalate, Gloria grapples with feelings of frustration, guilt, and helplessness. “I’m definitely frustrated and concerned and worried,” Bailey admitted. “I just want my baby to be okay.”

Meanwhile, Austin delves into Kevin’s perspective, describing his character’s confusion and turmoil.

“He’s just mentally at his worst point. He doesn’t know what to do. He doesn’t know who to turn to,” Austin revealed. As Kevin navigates the complexities of his situation, his relationship with Gloria undergoes strain, leaving both mother and son grappling with their emotions.

For Bailey, Gloria’s journey extends beyond the screen, resonating with her own experiences of loss, having recently lost her father. She also related it to her daughter, “what if something happened to her, what if she died, and you know, how I would feel, how that would break me as a mom,” Bailey reflected. The emotional depth of Gloria’s storyline culminates in a poignant scene depicting her grief and anguish, offering viewers a glimpse into the complexities of maternal love and loss. Gloria’s character confronts the harsh realities of her son’s fate, grappling with feelings of blame and regret. “I absolutely blame Detective Bryant, but she also blamed herself,” Bailey acknowledged.

In light of recent personal loss, Bailey emphasizes the importance of cherishing life and creating lasting memories with loved ones. “Tomorrow is not promised,” she reminds viewers. “I only celebrate life now; I only celebrate love; I only celebrate family.”
