*“Basketball Wives” star Brittish Williams was detained by police on January 12th after she failed to surrender to authorities to begin serving her 4-year prison sentence.

According to RadarOnline, hours before her scheduled surrender, Williams asked the court on January 2 to reduce her 4-year prison sentence to 2.6 years. She allegedly managed to postpone her prison check-in from December to January 3 but was apprehended nine days later for not surrendering to police.

Per The Jasmine Brand, “She argued, as she did in her first appeal, that the ruling was excessive due to her being a celebrity and decided not to appear for the surrender because the decision of the new appeal could immediately impact her prison stay,” the outlet writes.

We reported previously that Williams will spend the next four years in federal prison after being convicted for tax fraud, bank fraud, and PPP loan fraud.

“Brittish Williams was getting paid to portray her celebrity lifestyle on Basketball Wives when in fact she was a typical fraudster,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Jay Greenberg said in a press release. “After today’s sentencing, her reality is now a life of a felon.”

Last year, Williams pleaded guilty to 15 felonies in the case. She was indicted in 2021 on federal fraud and identity theft charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Missouri said in a press release.

According to RadarOnline, she pleaded guilty last May to five counts of misuse of a Social Security number, four counts of bank fraud, three counts of making false statements to the IRS, and three counts of wire fraud.

Baller Alert reports that the government objected to Williams’ sentence reduction request.

“Even if Williams did qualify for a potential reduction, the Government would oppose relief because she failed to report to the Bureau of Prisons as directed and she already received a more than generous disposition by way of the dismissal of counts carrying six years of consecutive mandatory minimums at the time of the original sentencing,” prosecutors argued.
