*For anyone who loves mythology, monsters, and mirth, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is a watershed of fun.

And since this is the season to be merry, it’s good to see brothers bond over a common threat. That threat is Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).

Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down and avenge his father’s death.

This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force.

Needless to say, Aquaman will need all the help he can get to defeat the Black Manta, protect the kingdom, and save his family, and the world from irreversible destruction.

All the magic of its predecessor, “Aquaman,” is gone. Audiences have to rely on their imagination to invest in outlandish—and might I say—cartoonish scenes. There is also the offensive optic of Amber Heard (Mera) and her “poop in the bed gate” allegation. DCU certainly knows how to pick them.

Earlier this year “Flash” fans had to contend with the vulgar and criminal behavior of “The Flash” star, Ezra Miller. He was never sanctioned. Yet, Jonathan Majors was dropped from the MCU like a hot potato.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” directed by James Wan, also stars Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, Randall Park, and Temuera Morrison.

Anyone But You

Anyone But You” had the makings of being a sustainable rom-com. However, it was sidetracked with over-the-top gross scenes. One in particular is Bea (Sydney Sweeney) examining Ben’s (Glen Powell) derriere and crotch for spiders. However, some of the retorts throughout the film were funny.

An admirable and interesting remark to be in a romantic comedy is that Australia—where the film takes place—has the same problems with its past as America. Neither wants to rightfully deal with its racist past. Also to the movie’s credit is the eye-catching opening restaurant scene. It brings to mind Edward Hopper’s painting, “Nighthawks,” but in a daytime setting.

In “Anyone But You,” Bea and Ben have an amazing first date but miscommunications turn their fiery hot attraction ice cold. When they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding, the gloves come off.

Directed by Will Gluck, the film also stars Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Hadley Robinson, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, Darren Barnet, Bryan Brown, and Rachel Griffiths.
