The reunion in question is a true blast from the past with ‘Cooley High’ stars Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs and Glynn Turman coming together as “very special guest performers” with the acclaimed musician.

Released on June 25, 1975, “Cooley High” is a coming-of-age comedy-drama centering on high school seniors and best friends, Leroy “Preach” Jackson (Turman), Richard “Cochise” Morris (Hilton-Jacobs).

The film, which was labeled a “classic of black cinema” by NPR, became a major box office hit during its release, grossing more than $13 million at the box office.

In 2021, “Cooley High” caught the attention of the Library of Congress as it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Orlando’s birthday celebration comes a year after news dropped that he survived Cancer. Inspired by his battle with the disease and becoming cancer-free, the man known as the percussionist to the stars released the song “Be Ready.” The tune is among a slew of work from Orlando, a veteran musician whose work can be heard on many recordings, including The Gap Band classic “Outstanding.” R&B greats collaborating with Orlando over the years include Chaka Khan, Bobby Womack, Billy Preston, Shanice LL Cool J, Yarbrough & Peoples, and Teena Marie as well as rap icons LL Cool J and Tupac Shakur.

In addition, Orlando is featured on “Argentia,” which was used in the James Caan and Paul Sorvino film “For the Love of Money. The tune is from the artist’s Grammy-nominated album “N’ Da House.”
