The Slice Report: In London VP Harris Positions the U.S. As Global Leader in Policing AI Risks | WATCH

*When it comes to Artificial Intelligence, said to be perhaps the most consequential technological advancement of our time, the potential of both the risks and rewards are vast and the reach spans the globe. The United States is poised to be a ring leader in keeping the use of technology safe for the nation and the world. Vice Pres. Kamala Harris has assumed the lead in corralling global leaders to move responsibly into an AI-driven future.

In London the Vice President outlined the United States’ vision for governing Artificial Intelligence, following Pres. Joe Biden’s Executive order on AI Monday. The EO mandated that AI systems developers “share their safety test results and other critical information with the U.S. government.” No other government in the world has taken this step.

At the U.S. Embassy in London Harris said it is the duty of leaders to guard their societies from the dangers of AI:

“President Biden and I believe that all leaders from government, civil society, and the private sector have a moral, ethical, and societal duty to make sure that AI is adopted and advanced in a way that protects the public from potential harm and that ensures that everyone is able to enjoy its benefits.”

She went on to mention how AI can be used in a productive manner within the realm of medicine or misused to spread misinformation such as during wartime as a propaganda tool or to breach national security. Warning that the threat of AI is not just “existential” but eminent she then appealed to the palatable fear that AI can ultimately destroy the world in the hands of bad actors and criminals if it is goes unregulated.

Harris is also in the UK to attend an event hosted by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sumak in Bletchley Park tomorrow, the “Global Summit on AI Safety.” X’s Elon Musk is expected to attend.

Per the White House, this is the Vice President’s 14th foreign trip since being sworn in as she has continued to lead on the global stage while visiting 20 countries and meeting with more than 150 world leaders to strengthen America’s critical alliances.
