Steve Harvey Helped 70s Soul Singer Out of Bad Financial Situation

*Steve Harvey revealed on his radio show in 2014 that singer Lenny Williams once thanked him for saving his life.

Williams is best known as the lead vocalist for the soul/funk group Tower of Power in the early 1970s. According to I Love Old School Music, many years ago, he approached Harvey at a public event and said: “Man thank you SO much for saving my life…you really saved my life.” Lenny’s wife added, “We thank you so much.”

Steve later confessed that he didn’t initially understand why Williams and his wife were thanking him. But the artist explained how sales of his 1975 hit song, “Cause I Love You,” increased after it was featured during Harvey’s “Kings Of Comedy Tour” routine.

As ILOSM reports, Williams owns the rights to the song, so he was able to cash in thanks to Steve.

Williams and his wife were in a bad financial situation at the time, and Harvey’s support led to Williams booking more shows, according to ILOSM.

Here’s more from the outlet:

Steve Harvey later stated on his radio show, that it wasn’t him, but rather “the grace of God” … because he had no clue Lenny Williams was going through financial troubles at that time. Harvey also expressed that Lenny’s story really touched him, and that Lenny probably has no idea how much he, in turn, affected his life too.

And there you have it.
