The Journal of Steffanie Rivers: Should You do Business in Africa? | WATCH

*If you’re a Black business owner in America, it’s important to know your craft and to build your brand so that you stand out in a sea of other businesses. So we have to ask, should you do business in Africa?

We ask because it’s important to build alliances – not just in the United States, but – internationally. The internet has created a global economy that connects entrepreneurs with people around the world with just a click of a button.

Just a few days ago I returned from a business trip to Dakar, Senegal. I was there to seek contract opportunities for my company, TCB Drones. Drone technology is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. In Senegal, a place where technology has been slow to take root, opportunities are more plentiful. The country’s ten-year plan includes the expansion of fourteen airports, an Amtrak-esque train system, new tourist zones and housing to accommodate it all.

I’ve vacationed in Egypt and Morocco, but this trip was strictly business. I traveled to West Africa as part of a delegation led by the National Black Chamber of Commerce. Charles DeBow is President. He revealed why Senegal is the best place to set up international operations.
