Shooter Pens a Heartfelt Apology Letter to Teen Campaigning for Warnock | Video

*On December 1, a 15-year-old boy campaigning for Senator Raphael Warnock was shot in the leg through a closed front door at home on Hartridge Street in Savannah, Georgia. The shooter and homeowner, 42-year-old Jimmy Paiz, has now written an apology letter to the teen who was campaigning for Warnock during the 2022 senate race, according to recent court documents.

Paiz is sorry for his role in the shooting and starts the letter by wishing he could one day be able to apologize in person to the shooting victim, eye to eye. Paiz also regretted the pain he caused the teen.

“I am so very sorry, young man. I am sincerely ashamed to have hurt you, and all the more, for having done so while you were out righteously serving our community, and in a time of great struggle,” wrote Paiz, who faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery. “Please know that none of this tragedy comes from a place of malice. None.”

Paiz then explained that he mistook the teen for an intruder and that he acted from a position of feeling threatened, not from hate or rage. He concluded the letter by saying, “nothing about you caused this tragedy to happen. Had the events unfolded differently, you would have certainly been greeted at the door by a friend and ally, which is my lifelong shame to endure.”

The unidentified teen was rushed to Memorial Medical Center for medical treatment when the incident occurred. The following day, Senator Warnock reacted to the incident.

“I am saddened to learn about this incident. I am praying for the victim and their family and wish them a full recovery,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Paiz has a preliminary hearing set for January 19. Earlier, a judge had ordered him to undergo mental health treatment.
