*Disney Junior and Hasbro’s entertainment studio, eOne, has released the first-look trailer for the new kids TV series “Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes,” which premieres later this month in the US on Disney Junior and Disney+.

Per the official synopsis: “An original concept by Robert Vargas, adapted from characters created by South Africans Marc Dey and Kelly Dillon, the original action-adventure animated series follows Kiya, a seven-year-old African girl, whose passions in life are dancing and martial arts, which also become her superpowers. “

“Kiya plays such an important character in children’s programming,” the synopsis continues. “Her world features a diverse cast of characters inspired by the landscape, natural beauty and culture of Southern Africa, and focuses on themes of community, empathy and unity… Here’s to hoping other young girls that look like Kiya say “she looks like me!” – just like Halle Bailey’s important role in the upcoming Little Mermaid movie does for other young kids.”

We reported previously that Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) has partnered with the forthcoming animated TV series, “Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes.”

“The themes of ‘Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes’ really resonate with me as they mirror much of what our dance academy instills in the young people we’ve inspired through the years,” said Debbie Allen, Founder and Artistic Director, DADA, in a statement.

“Kiya inspires kids to tap into their unique passions to find power in who they are. Passions are what give the characters’ their superpowers and the series, like DADA, invites kids to see their own passions as heroic aspects of themselves,” Allen continued.

“Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes,” per the synopsis, “provides big life lessons packaged into 11-minute episodes, easily understood by young audiences.”

The series will premiere in the US on Disney Junior on March 22nd (4:00 p.m. EST/PST), and the first four episodes will premiere the same day on Disney+. Check out the first-look images below.
