*John Singleton’s mother is being sued by one of his exes for $15 million over claims that she’s owed a percentage of his residuals that his mom and other parties are keeping from her.

According to RadarOnline, Vestria Barlow, who has two children by the late director, accuses John’s estate, his mother and executor Sheila Ward, and various studios of concealing income from productions that generated royalties and residuals.

Vestria claims to have collaborated with John on most of his productions, including “Poetic Justice,” “Higher Learning, “Woo,” “Rosewood,” “Shaft,” “Baby Boy,” “Hustle & Flow,” “Black Snake Moan” and “Snowfall.” Vestria accuses the studios behind these productions of failing to properly pay the residuals John is owed. She says the studios owe her 7 to 10 percent of all residuals due to the late director.

“The studio defendants, defendant Sheila Ward, and defendant Estate of John D. Singleton did knowingly, intentionally, negligently did conceal true and accurate income derived from properties where royalties and residuals are and was due plaintiff,” the lawsuit reads.

Ward was put in charge of her son’s estate following his death in 2019, and informed the court that John’s 7 children would be the beneficiaries. During the probate case, Vestria’s daughter Cleopatra demanded $1 million claiming John was supposed to maintain a life insurance policy with her as the beneficiary.

Vestria, who also had a son with John, also claimed that John was ordered to pay $3,875 per month per child until they turned 18 after she was awarded primary custody of both children in 2001, but stopped making the payments very early on, which led to her demanding $438,000 in back child support. In her new lawsuit, Vestria said she wanted to recover damages for defendants. She’s also claiming to have suffered financial loss, humiliation, emotional distress, anxiety, and stress.

In response to the suit, John’s mother and the estate asked the court to dismiss the case entirely, arguing the lawsuit was filed past the statute of limitations and in the wrong state.
