*Jada Pinkett Smith initially thought Will Smith’s Oscar slap was a skit; now she’s calling it a “holy” moment.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Jada said Will slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars “saved my marriage.”
“That moment of the s-it hitting the fan is when you see where you really are,” she shared, Just Jared reports. “After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap for me to see I will never leave him. Who knows where our relationship would be if that hadn’t happened?”
The actress added, “I call it the ‘holy slap’ now because so many positive things came after it,” she explained.
“We’ve been together 30 years so, even if someone new came along, neither of us is going anywhere,” she said. “We are a family that needs to look out for one another and always will be. Sometimes it takes a crisis for you to see that.”
Pinkett Smith reflected on the Oscar slap in an interview with People published in October.
“I thought, ‘This is a skit,’ ” she said. “I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him. It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.”
When they were alone after the awards ceremony, she asked Will, “Are you okay?”
Smith revealed in October that she and Smith have been separated since 2016.
“First of all, I’m really shocked because, mind you, I’m not there — we haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time,” Pinkett Smith said of the OScar slap in an interview with “Today” co-anchor Hoda Kotb, CNN reports. “I’m like, ‘What is going on right now?’”
According to Page Six, the mother of two has a net worth of $50 million, while Smith is worth $350 million. The couple allegedly have no plans to divorce.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce,” Pinkett Smith told Kotb. “We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
