*Tory Lanez has hired a new lawyer as he appeals his case. The lawyer, Jose Baez, is the same one who fought tooth and nail for Casey Anthony during her 2011 murder trial. Anthony was eventually acquitted of murdering her daughter, Caylee Anthony. Jose Baez thinks his new client, the rap star, made a big mistake during his trial, and he has come on board to correct it.
The lawyer was recently hosted on TMZ Live where he explained that Lanez should have hired him sooner. Lanez is now facing more than 22 years in jail for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion after a jury found him guilty on three charges.
Megan was shot in the foot, leading to Lanez being charged with felony negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm. It has also been reported that Lanez will be deported back to Canada once he serves his prison sentence.
Lanez apparently didn’t expect a guilty verdict. Indeed, his family was expecting a “Not Guilty’ verdict. When he was found guilty, “several members of the rapper’s family shouted — calling the jurors evil,” according to TMZ.
Lanez entered the courthouse hours before the jury’s verdict, holding his son and telling reporters that he was hopeful things would go his way. But things didn’t go his way.

“I can tell you looking at this case, I certainly wish I had come in sooner as opposed to later, and unfortunately, this is the way it is, but he’s got me now,” said Baez. “I am willing to give him everything I have and hopefully we’ll get the best result possible for him.”
He also pointed out that before this case, his client was never guilty of any crimes or legally recorded bad behavior.
“Tory has never been convicted of a crime and he has never had to deal with the circumstances that he’s dealing with. So, the adjustment that he’s going through is one of… it’s new to him,” he explained. “To his credit, he’s listening to his lawyers. He’s an incredibly articulate man and in all of that he is… there are things in the trial he had wished gone the other way.”
He also said that mistakes are made in every trial, and he’s confident there were mistakes made in this specific trial.
“I would say there’s a significant chance that there are numerous errors that are in the system and within this case that should be explored,” Baez said in conclusion.
The lawyer is said to be getting $200k per month from Lanez. “Daily Loud” reported that Lanez is spending $200,000 monthly on his new legal team.
