*A clip of Fantasia Barrino singing during a table read for “The Color Purple” is circulating on social media.
Barrino stars as Celie in the music musical, a role she first played on Broadway from 2007 to 2008.
A new viral clip on X (formally Twitter) shows Barrino at a table reading for the film singing “I’m Here” – watch below.
Several X users praised Fanny’s “raw talent,” with one person writing, “Wow, her performance was incredible! She truly brought the character to life.”
Another said, “She brought the same energy and then some to the movie. Her performance was beyond powerful.”

A third person wrote, “I couldn’t keep it together in the movie I was smiling but tears were just rolling down my face and I couldn’t stop crying. This woman’s talent is so good that it can move you to tears even when you want to smile. What a gift.”

According to the Associated Press, Fantasia was initially reluctant to take on the role of Celie in director Blitz Bazawule’s “The Color Purple” movie musical.
“I’m glad that I didn’t allow my fear of my past experience with Celie, because of where my life was at that time, to hinder me from doing something great,” Barrino said, per the Associated Press. “I’m riding on a high right now.”
“The Color Purple” opened Christmas Day in theaters nationwide.
