*Just like his interview with presidential candidate Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 presidential election, Charlamagne Tha God‘s sit down with 2024 GOP presidential candidate Larry Elder is making news. Some are calling it Charlamagne’s “wake-up call” based on the scorching response he got when he asked Elder if he had ever heard the expression, “ni*** wake-up call?”
Essentially Elder presented “The Breakfast Club” host with a gotcha moment earlier this week for refusing to hold President Biden accountable in 2020 for his claim any African Americans who were considering voting for Donald Trump “ain’t Black.”
The topic came up during Elder’s appearance on the popular morning radio show, where he and the show’s hosts discussed the topics of systemic racism, fatherlessness, and other circumstances affecting the Black community.
As the conversation leaned heavily into topics of race, Elder pointed out the hypocrisy of Charlamagne calling out racism but refusing to reject Biden’s controversial statements from 2020.

Here’s the dialogue between Elder and Charlamagne Tha God regarding the “ni*** wake up call”:
CHARLEMAGNE THA GOD: Have you ever heard the term ‘ni*** wake-up’ call?
LARRY ELDER: No.
CHARLEMAGNE: It’s an incident where a person of color forgets that they are of color and are reminded rather brutally by an unexpected act of racism. Have you ever had that?
ELDER: Oh brother.
CHARLEMAGNE: I’m just asking.
ELDER: I’m acutely aware Charlemagne that I am a Black person, just as you are a Black person, and when Joe Biden insulted you by saying ‘you ain’t really Black you don’t know whether or not you want to vote for me or vote for Donald Trump.’ It seems to me that should’ve been a wake-up call on your part. He came in here and insult you, a Black man, and tell you that you got to think a certain way. I’m amazed that you weren’t mad about that.
CHARLEMAGNE: I’m not going to say that upset me, just like I’m not going to let you upset me. You know? I don’t seem to get upset about those things.
ELDER: Well you just talked about a n—- wake-up call and it seemed to me that should’ve been a wake-up call on your part. To have a white guy come in here, who also said by the way about Mitt Romney, because he didn’t want to put up more regulation on Wall Street he was going to ‘put y’all back in chains.’ And Joe Biden has lied for decades on his civil rights record, claiming he desegregated movie theaters and restaurants in Wilmington, Delaware. He didn’t do any of that. He lied and said he tried to visit Nelson Mandela during apartheid South Africa, he did not. He came in here and told you that you aren’t black unless you think in a certain kind of way? It seems to me that should have been a ni— wake-up call for you, but it wasn’t.
CHARLEMAGNE: For the record, I’m not a Democrat or Republican.
Elder: I didn’t say you were. I don’t know what you are. I didn’t ask you about your party affiliation. But you are black and have a white guy come in here and tell you you have to think in a certain kind of way otherwise “you ain’t black,” wow!
CHARLEMAGNE: How do you think I should have responded instead?
ELDER: What I just now said. ‘How dare you insult me with how I ought to think, as a human being, let alone a black person. I don’t tell you how to think, Joe Biden. How dare you come in here and tell me how I should think. I’m gonna vote for Donald Trump because I wanna vote for Donald Trump. And if I wanna vote for Donald Trump it does not make me not black. 20% of black men, as I said, voted for Donald Trump, so are they not black now? Only 80% of black men walking around are really black, 20% are not because they voted for Donald Trump? How insulting is that? How condescending is that?’
CHARLEMAGNE: You’re probably right but I didn’t take it that way.
ELDER: Well, I did.
