Devon Franklin’s ‘Flamin’ Hot’ Film Set to Heat Up Theaters! | Watch

Who doesn’t remember when Flamin’ Hot Cheetos appeared on the market?!

Those who were bold enough to try them were indulged in a spicy, crunchy, semi-savory chip that possibly left them with a runny nose, red tongue and the obvious red fingertips. However, many never knew the inspiring story of Richard Montañez who claims hold of the great Flamin’ Hot Cheetos idea that producer, Devon Franklin decided to turn into a movie.

EUR had an opportunity to chat with Franklin (Miracles from Heaven, The Star, Breakthrough), and cast members Jesse Garcia (Narcos: Mexico, Ambulance), and Annie Gonzalez (Gentefied, Vida, Shameless) about the Eva Longoria-directed film, “Flamin’ Hot” hitting theaters June 9.

When asked about the inspiration to produce this feel-good movie, Franklin opened up about meeting Montañez for the first time.

“I met him seven years ago and when he told me his story, I just was inspired and motivated, and I felt good. I said, ‘whew, this good,’ and I just was so amazed and enamored with the story, I just felt like I had to tell it.”

The movie also stars six-year-old Brice Gonzalez, an up-and-coming actor and Tik Tok superstar. Garcia shared a bit of insight on what it was like to work with the newcomer.

“He’s just a fun kid. He’s just really smart, fast as a whip…he’s definitely got a personality.” While Garcia shared that he believes Brice has “a big career” ahead, Gonzalez shared that she keeps a “radical, childlike joy. Being with Brice just reminds me of my younger self and it was really a nice reassurance to remember, like oh, I haven’t lost that joy, that excitement,” continued Gonzalez.

A spicy movie is one thing, but when the cast was asked, how they like their spicy food, Garcia mentioned spicy honey and Gonzalez went for a more unique approach saying she enjoys fruit with Tajin and chile.

“Flamin’ Hot” premieres on Hulu & Disney+ on June 9.
