DeVon Franklin and Kelsey Grammer Tackle Faith and Hippies in ‘Jesus Revolution’ | Watch EUR Exclusive

*If you’re a fan of five-time Emmy winner and three-time Golden Globe winner Kelsey Grammer, then you’ll surely enjoy his heartwarming performance as real-life pastor Chuck Smith in the new faith-based film “Jesus Revolution.”

Here’s the official synopsis: In the 1970s, young Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places: until he meets Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie-street-preacher. Together with Pastor Chuck Smith (Grammer), they open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to an unexpected revival of radical and newfound love, leading to what TIME Magazine dubbed a JESUS REVOLUTION.

Per the studio’s news release, “JESUS REVOLUTION” is not as much a faith-based movie as it is a historical telling of a story about faith and revival. It brings to life the historical events of the late 60 and early 70s that lead to “The Jesus Movement.” 

Grammer said in an interview with USA Today that the young people responsible for the Jesus movement were “energized and optimistic.”

“It’s really uplifting. It’s a good movie,” Grammer said of the film. “My wife and I saw it together. She was just dissolved in tears and said, ‘It’s the best thing you’ve ever done.’ ” 

When asked about his own relationship with faith, Grammer explained, “I’ve had hiccups. I’ve had some tragic times. I have wrestled with those and worked my way through them: sometimes rejecting faith, sometimes rejecting God even, in a period of being pretty angry about it, like, “Where were you?” That kind of thing. But I have come to terms with it and have found great peace in my faith and in Jesus. It’s not cavalier – Jesus made a difference in my life. That’s not anything I’ll apologize for.”

When asked if a Jesus Revolution is happening right now — director Jon Erwin told Christianity Today: “Within the entertainment industry specifically, I think there’s an uprising on the behalf of Christianity. I think there’s a resurgence in belief and a sudden increase in spirituality in America, even though church attendance is going down. You can feel an undercurrent of something going on in the industry, in emerging talent, and in a lot of people who usually stay silent. Titans of the industry are now putting God in their work, and it’s an exciting moment to be in the business.”
