*Nigerian singer Burna Boy has made history as the first African musician to sell out a stadium in the United States.
The Grammy-winning artist sold out the 41,000-capacity Citi Field Stadium in NYC on Saturday, where his sister, Nissi, was the opening act, according to The Daily Post. Burna Boy took to Instagram to reflect on this history-making moment, writing: “Glory to God.”
The artist first played New York’s 1,800-capacity PlayStation Theater in 2017. After the Citi Field Stadium show, Burna Boy chronicled his journey in the Big Apple.
“I’m truly speechless. Last night was a movie. Thank you New York,” the musician wrote on his Instagram page.
He added, “PlayStation Theatre – 2017, Gramercy Theatre – 2018, The Apollo – 2019, Madison Square Garden – 2022, Cranfield Stadium – 2023. What a journey, Glory to God.”

On Instagram, one fan commented, “Burna Boy is easily bigger than Future, but you won’t know it because Africa hasn’t been able to monetize our audience.”
Another said, “How can you even compare any other Nigerian musician to this guy? How please? No one comes close!”
A third noted, “This man alone is the representation of the whole African continent. BIG ODOGWU.”
“I’ve been at every one of the New York shows. It was beautiful to see you sell out that stadium last night!,” a Burna Boy fan wrote. Another IG user added, “Saw you in NY at a free concert in Brooklyn 4 years ago. Fast forward to you selling out Citifield. Your journey is crazy! Last night was was truly a movie. 10/10”
