*Angela Bassett is speaking out about the viral death hoax that her son got caught up in last week.

As EUR reported previously, via CNN, in the 27-second Tik Tok video, Bassett and her husband actor Courtney B. Vance are in a room with Slater Vance, 16, who is heard asking his parents if they had heard about the death of actor Michael B. Jordan. Bassett, who is clearly emotional after hearing the news, is seen walking up to her son as if she is looking to see where he is reading the news.

The video, which has since been removed, doesn’t show what Bassett’s reaction was when she learned that she was being pranked.

Slater was quick to issue an apology after receiving backlash for the video hoax.

“We all make mistakes, own up to them, take responsibility. and then hold your head up and move forward,” Bassett told Entertainment Tonight at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Creative Impact Awards.

Slater’s video was part of a TikTok trend of users telling family members that celebrities have falsely died.

Slater apologized for taking part in the “harmful trend.”

“I apologize to Michael B. Jordan’s entire family, extended family, and him directly as he is an idol of mine. Taking part in a trend like this is completely disrespectful,” he said. “I don’t wish any bad ramifications of this on his family nor my parents as they deserve none of the backlash. I know this was a mistake.”

Bassett said this has been a “teachable lesson” for her son.
