*A White female Alabama police officer named Dana Elmore with the Reform Police Department was suspended for using a stun gun on a handcuffed man – and the disturbing incident was caught on camera.
In the clip, the unidentified cop in Pickens County was filmed on December 2 berating 24-year-old Micah Washington, a Black man, following his arrest on a trafficking fentanyl charge. The video shows Washington pinned against the hood of the police cruiser during the traffic stop.
The two exchange words, at which point the man responds, “I ain’t doing sh*t, bro. I got a gun right there.”
As soon as (now suspended) Officer Elmore pulled the gun from his pocket, she immediately deployed the stun gun on his back. Watch the moment via the clip above.
“Do you want it again? Shut your bitch ass up!” the Officer Elmore tells the man as he cries out in pain, TMZ reports.
“She tased him in the back and she was holding it. She was just holding it there until he started crying,” said Jalexis Rice, Washington’s girlfriend, WVTM 13 Birmingham reports.
Reform police Chief Richard Black and Mayor Melody Davis released a joint statement in response to the viral video.
“The Reform Police Department is aware of a video circulating involving a citizen’s arrest on December 2.”
Per TMZ, the statement continued, “The department is in the process of turning over all materials related to this arrest to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation and has requested a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest. By City Policy, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted.”
WVTM 13 Birmingham reports that “Washington was charged with obstructing governmental operations, resisting arrest, marijuana possession, drug trafficking, and possessing a firearm as an ex-felon,” the outlet writes.
Protesters gathered near Reform’s city hall on Monday night to protest the arrest and call for accountability.
