*We caught up with comedian/actor Aisha Alfa to dish about her co-starring role in the new dark comedy thriller “Based On A True Story,” now streaming on Peacock.

The series created by Craig Rosenberg and Jason Bateman stars Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina as Ava and Natha, a couple struggling to make ends meet who decide to capitalize on America’s obsession with the true crime genre. They start a podcast and Ava suggests they invite a serial killer as a guest.

As Yahoo reports (via Entertainment Weekly), to prepare for his role as the elusive killer, British actor Tom Bateman read “The Psychopath Test” by Jon Ronson.

“The sort of common thing with all of these different psychopaths was they have no empathy, that they are constantly observing the people that they’re talking to and creating very, very quickly a mask that they wear, that is pleasing to the person in order to seduce and control them effectively. And that was an amazing starting point for me,” he told EW.

Meanwhile, Alfa is also obsessed with the true crime genre and loves her role as Carolyn in the series. In a statement via a press release, she said, I want to hang out with her! She’s an opinionated, sex-positive, Mama who is confident and successful.”

When we caught up with Alfa she gushed about landing this exciting role and working with Hollywood darling Kaley Cuoco (“Big Bang Theory”). Check out what she had to say about why America loves true crime and what she’s excited about viewers experiencing with “Based On A True Story.”
