‘African Royale’ Brings African Royalty to LA with Upcoming Reality TV Show | VIDEO

*Some people move to Los Angeles with just a dollar and a dream, and then there’s Abimbola Fernandez; Her Imperial Highness of the Olumegbon Royal Family in Lagos, Nigeria. I had the chance to chat with Abimbola about her upcoming reality show, “African Royale,” which is based in LA and is scheduled to debut on October 19 on The Africa Channel.

In the first episode, she takes us on a quick tour of her million-dollar penthouse apartment in Downtown LA, while offering breathtaking skyline views and showcasing her dynamic friendships.

Abimbola Fernandez hails from a remarkable lineage, with her father being the Nigerian Billionaire Ambassador Deinde Fernandez and her mother, Chief Aduke Olufunmilola Fernandez, also known as Sandra I Price. During our interview, Abimbola expressed her passion for telling her late parents’ story.

“My mother was from Memphis and my father was born in Lagos Nigeria, and to me, it was most important to tell their story because my parents created this legacy and showed up in spaces where Africans and Black people are not traditionally seen. For me, their story is inspirational, and I want people to see that there are no limits on anyone’s capabilities.”

She went on to highlight the invaluable life lessons she gained from her parents, who instilled in her a mindset that transcends boundaries.

“From a very young age, just being able to see [my parents] lifestyle and mindset, and to have that ingrained into myself and my sister was the most powerful and inspirational boost, especially as a child. My parents, as a unit, created a billion-dollar empire and a platform for their children to stand on proudly. I am so incredibly proud of where I come from, and I don’t want [their story] to die,” she continues.

The show offers an unfiltered look into Abimbola’s life, portraying the challenges and opportunities she encounters as she carries forward her late father’s legacy in Los Angeles. From the very first episode, despite her wealth and access, the show reveals that Abimbola is still just like any of us, navigating a new chapter in our lives while facing the many challenges that come with making new friends and a name for herself in a big city. 

As she explained, “I feel like I’ve lived so many different lives, from being a punk rocker to a singer in an EDM group, to curating a couture collection. Now, I feel like I’m in my new chapter of storytelling. Moving from New York to LA was such a challenge; the vibe and culture are so different. But it’s a new chapter, and I feel like I’m a new person. Losing my parents made me get a grip and realize what’s important.”

Abimbola’s move to Los Angeles serves as a moment in her life and we will get to see a candid look into her life. Viewers will witness the challenges of building her brand, managing family drama, and humanizing the concept of African Royalty. 

“I would love for people to understand that I am human because I guarantee you that I am nothing like what people are assuming [of me]. I am still learning, and I hope the viewers will see that I am just like them and can learn something from this show.’

As the premiere of “African Royale” on The Africa Channel approaches, viewers can look forward to a thought-provoking, inspiring, and authentic portrayal of HIH Abimbola Fernandez’s life. Tune in to the show next week, on Thursday, October 19th, at 8pm EST on The Africa Channel.
