*Two school communities in New York are mourning the loss of a 17-year-old teenager who died while vacationing in Florida during a tragic drowning, according to the WTEN news report via the video above.
Danielle Marceline was vacationing with her best friend Mary Doyle, her mother, Christine Marceline, and a family friend as part of her 18th birthday celebration. The group trip was also meant to help support the family friend whose son died in March and her husband passed away in October. Danielle planned the trip, according to her mother, Black Enterprise reports.
Danielle and Mary were swimming in Cocoa Beach when Danielle was swept away by the strong ocean current, according to the Cocoa Beach Police Department. Brevard County lifeguards were able to save Mary, but not Danielle.
Officers responded to a 911 call about the two young women in distress. The U.S. Coast Guard was also alerted but they were reportedly unable to save Danielle. A couple walking on the Florida beach came upon her body early the following morning, six blocks south of Minutemen Cswy, according to the BE report.

Shy, but goofy when you got to know her. A great volleyball player (outside hitter). Dreamed of being an interior designer. That’s how friends and family remember Danielle Marceline, a @CCSAlbany student who died over the weekend. Full story at 4 @WTEN.https://t.co/NDNO8yS3CT

“This was supposed to be an amazing mother-daughter weekend. It was something she always wanted,” said Marceline.
“It was supposed to be the best weekend of her life and it took her life away,” she continued.
Marceline said she was away getting lunch while her daughter was swimming, News 10 reports.
“When I came on that beach and they told me they couldn’t find her, I instantly felt like I was in some movie that I had seen,” Marceline said, “like, this can’t be real. This isn’t my life. This cannot be my life.”
Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Danielle Marceline. Our heart aches especially with all those in the Lansingburgh, Catholic High, and Tamarac communities as well as, all those beyond that were blessed to know her. RIP Dani. ???? pic.twitter.com/gLhmWuMnIJ

“The only thing I can say to parents I guess is, just always hug your children,” Marceline told NEWS10.
Christine said had the family friend not joined them on the trip, “my husband would be planning his wife and daughter’s funeral arrangements — because I wouldn’t have gotten through,” the grieving mother said.
A GoFundMe has been launched to help cover funeral expenses. Danielle’s celebration of life services will be held Saturday, December 17 at Life Church in Latham from 1-3 P.M.
