*Retired NBA star Gilbert Arenas credits the generosity of a homeless man for his recent come up in the lottery game.
As noted by the LA Times, the three-time all-star bagged more than $160 million in his 11-year NBA career, and on Sunday he added $300k more to his fortune.
According to Arena’s Instagram post, here’s how it went down:
Arenas had eight minutes to get to his preferred gas station in Calabasas, Calif. to play the same lottery numbers he always plays.
He only had $10 cash and no gas in his tank, so when he stopped to quickly fill up at a random gas station, a homeless man asked for some spare change. Arenas explained his situation to the man, and offered to give him $5 and keep the other $5 to pay for gas.
The man said that wouldn’t be enough to get Arenas to the spot the usually plays the lotto, so he told Arenas to “Keep the $10 and after you win, hook me up with $20. I know you’re going to win.”

By the time Arenas arrived at his “hook up gas station,” it was closed.
What he didn’t know at the time was that the store owner played his lottery numbers.
The next morning, Arenas woke up to a text telling him he won $300,000. When he hit up the gas station, the owner explained that he was the one who texted Arenas with the good news.
The NBA star took to Instagram to share the tale of his surprising luck.
“This caption is not about good deed but about a struggling mans sacrifice and belief,” Arenas wrote Sunday in an Instagram post (see post above).
True to his word, Arenas said he found the homeless man from the gas station and “gave him his cut.”
“He jumped up and hugged me for 5 mins crying and then started to pray,” wrote Arenas, who also posted images of the text he received about his winning lottery ticket.
“I’ve given back to the homeless BUT never was blessed by one. his good hearted gesture of me making it back home blessed that ticket,” he added.
