Missouri Rep. William Lacy Clay Slams Stacey Abrams’ ‘Offensive’ Campaign for Biden’s VP Slot

Missouri Democratic Congressman William Lacy Clay

*Missouri Democratic Congressman William Lacy Clay has slammed Stacey Abrams public campaign to be Joe Biden’s VP running mate.

Calling her self-promotion “inappropriate,” Clay added, “Here’s what I do know. And it’s like all of the other presidential candidates, Democratic presidential primary candidates and their supporters, okay, we went through a process, Bernie Sanders has conceded, and this applies to Stacey [Abrams] too,” he said on the “Tangazo!” Podcast. “You know, at the race track, you cannot show up at the winner’s window with loser’s tickets. You haven’t won anything. You can’t show up at the winner’s window with loser’s tickets and demand anything.”

Clay went on to call Abrams’ political hustle “offensive.”

“For you to be out there marketing and putting on a PR campaign that way, I think it’s inappropriate,” he added.

We previously reported… in an interview on ABC’s “The View” last week, Abrams said if Biden does not pick a woman of color as his running mate in November, it would be a “a slap in the face” to Black voters.

“I think Vice President Biden is going to make a smart choice, and I appreciate the fact that he has lifted up women as being a necessary partner in this,” she said.

Adding, “I would share your concern about not picking a woman of color because women of color — particularly black women — are the strongest part of the Democratic Party, the most loyal, but that loyalty isn’t simply how we vote. It’s how we work, and if we want to signal that that work will continue, that we’re going to reach not just to certain segments of our community, but to the entire country, then we need a ticket that reflects the diversity of America.”

Abrams told Elle she’d be “an excellent running mate,” and also promoted herself during a recent interview with CBS This Morning — check out the clip above.

Meanwhile, Biden said he intends to name a panel of advisers by May 1 to help him select a running mate.

“The first, the most important quality is someone who — if I walked away immediately from the office for whatever reason — that they can be president,” Biden said during a appearance on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” He added that he wants the public to be able to see his pick as “capable of being president of the United States tomorrow.”
