Texas Woman Denied Pedicure at Nail Salon Because She Was ‘Too Big to Fit in Chair’

*A Texas woman is speaking out about her humiliating experience at a nail salon, where she was told she was too fat for a pedicure.

The incident happened last week inside the Rose Nails salon in north Houston. According to ABC 7, security cameras captured Tina Lewis and her mom entering the salon and having a brief exchange with employees that she said left her speechless.

Lewis recalled, “I was like, ‘Can I get a pedicure? And what chair do I sit in?’ And (the employee) was like, the chairs were not big enough for me to sit in. And I was like, ‘Are you serious?'”

All she wanted was a pedicure, but instead she received a hefty dose of body shamming.

“I said, ‘I’m sorry I cannot serve you because my spa chair is very small,'” said Marie Bui, an employee of Rose Nails.

Bui said it wasn’t her intention to be rude or mean to Lewis, but claims a previous customer damaged a chair and they believe it was because of that person was also overweight.

“After that, the spa chair and the machine broke underneath,” said Bui.

The shop owner said they can’t keep replacing the chairs, which cost a couple of hundred dollars a pop, so they have to take certain precautions. But Lewis ain’t buying their explanation and said she’ll never go back to that salon again.

It was like, very disrespectful,” Lewis said. “To me I thought it was discrimination.”

Legally, the law was on the salon’s side.

It’s a private business. Someone can deny a person for whatever reason, as long as it’s not protected,” New York attorney Julie Hyman, who is not representing Lewis, tells DailyMail.com.
