TAYO Fatunla/CARTOONING IN AFRICA – The gathering of Cartoonists

TAYO - AU Cartoonists
Cartoonists who are Cartooning For Peace

*Flying the Ethiopian airline from London into Addis Ababa in Ethiopia at the Horn Of Africa has been one of my impressive experiences of an African Airline doing well and flying modern planes as well as indicating its arrival as an established Star Alliance airline and possible an African flagship.

Cartooning For Peace co-founded by France’s foremost cartoonist, Plantu, in conjunction with UNESCO organized sessions bringing together press cartoonists from different countries as part of an open discussion with experiences from those whose work has made them the focus of freedom of expression in Africa.

The session laid emphasis on the concepts of press freedom and artistic freedom in democratic debate, Mainly in a Political context. This meeting was accompanied by a live wall drawing at the African Union headquarters with projected drawings by cartoonists in attendance, thus allowing a lively and interactive exchange.

Also at the conference centre, Cartooning for Peace exhibited, cartoons of the press cartoonists focusing on  the media and Press freedom with a special focus on the challenges that face African cartoonists with their respective publishers. The exhibition was also displayed at the Alliance Française themed the pros and cons of press cartoons. Opened to the general public it allowed many to view the works of the cartoonists and also meet with the cartoonists from around the world.
