On Valentine’s Day Sammie Gets Real About Dating, New Album, King of R&B and Not Getting A Millennium Tour Call

*He’s known in the R&B world for hits such as  “Crazy Things I Do,” “Come With Me,” and “You Should Be My Girl” all landing on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart and we can’t forget “I Like It” which reached number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. So, yes, as you can tell, Sammie has been in the game for a while now and as a grown man he’s speaking his mind.

“At 12 years young I was number 1 in the country, 4 ½ weeks on Billboard, the first to do that at that age since Stevie Wonder, so like it wasn’t like I came out and didn’t make any noise. No I had platinum records I had gold records, I was signed out here to Capitol Records at that time and I think I definitely influenced Executives to go find Bow Wows and Lil’ Romeos.”

I pick up on his excitement while talking about his new album “Everlasting” dropping March 1st, coincidentally the day of his 32nd birthday. With his longevity and this being his 4th studio album I was curious about his process before going into the studio and laying down a track.

I write from experience, there’s these substantial gaps between my projects, but it’s purposely done. Like I can’t write music everyday because I am not inspired everyday. I have to go live and do things and um, experience.”

As we talked more about the process he openly brings up the ‘King of R&B” debate Jacquees has made so popular.

“ I love the confidence and I love that he struck a conversation piece around R&B because that’s a genre that they have proclaimed has been dead for about 10-15 years now right? That’s how I know there’s no King because if there was a King that means the King is leading the genre the right way and everyone would follow suit.”

He explains that he just wants to save traditional R&B and to open doors for more artist to do the kind of music that evokes passion, vulnerability and emotion.

But Sammie didn’t stop there as I had the dying question did he feel some type of way about not getting a call for the Millennium Tour and he answered with a refreshing amount of honesty.

“ Not some type of way, disrespected, I don’t sugar coat anything, the word would be disrespected. I definitely should’ve been apart of the tour, but then like as a Godly man I understand if it’s for me I would’ve been.”

Sammie praised Bow Wow as well and felt he should’ve been apart of the tour.

As we continued to talk he disclosed his thoughts on online dating and that he’s newly off the market, how she inspires him, gives advice on his image and they agree to keep things private for now.

“I feel like until you have that strong foundation that’s God oriented at first, you shouldn’t welcome outside energies into it.”

After about a good 20 minutes we wrapped up the interview with concluding words about his new album and tour, which will start in May but definitive dates are being worked on. He thanks his fans the Sammie Lovers and let’s everyone know you can listen to “Everlasting” on all platforms March 1st.
