Kim Kardashian on Why She Wants to Pursue Criminal Justice Reform

Kim Kardashian - Trump

*Kim Kardashian details her interest in the criminal justice system in the latest episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

As we previously reported, the 38-year-old reality TV star, who did not complete college, plans to take the bar exam in 2022. Last summer she began a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco. Hopeful attorneys are not required to go to law school prior to taking the bar exam.

The L.A. native happens to live in one of the four states that allows folks to bypass law school if they simply “read the law” or apprentice with a practicing lawyer or judge as an alternative path to passing the bar, MSN reports.

Kim recently opened up about her interest in criminal justice reform and the inmate selection process.

“I told my dad years ago that I was really into criminal justice and he was like, ‘This will stress you out so much. You do not really want to take this on,'” Kim explained to her mother Kris while sorting through letters she’s received from inmates, Complex reports. “But I think now, having gotten so deep in helping Alice, I’m really motivated to get to know the law more and fight for people that deserve a second chance, like her.”

As you know, Kim’s father, Robert Kardashian, was part of O.J. Simpson’s “Dream Team” of attorneys when he stood trial for double murder in the 90’s.

Kim was motivated to take up law after meeting with Trump to discuss prison reform and the release of Alice Marie Johnson from prison last year.

Recalling her meeting at the White House, Kim previously said, “I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, Oh, s—. I need to know more.”

She continued, “I would say what I had to say, about the human side and why this is so unfair. But I had attorneys with me who could back that up with all the facts of the case. It’s never one person who gets things done; it’s always a collective of people, and I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society. I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.”

The success Kim experienced with Alice inspired her to become more knowledgeable in the law and legal matters. So she announced in her Vogue May cover story that she’s studying law.

Kardashian tells her mom in the upcoming KUWTK episode, “If I see [a story] that I feel like has a real shot and moves me, then I’ll send it to  my attorneys that look over everything to make sure that it’s legitimate,” she says. Kris then wonders why Kim sends certain letters to her legal team: “So, they examine the case and make sure that [clemency is] even something that’s possible?” she asks, which Kim confirms “Yeah.”
