Fired Black Law Firm Partner (Don Lewis) Targeted, Again, by ‘Potential Perjury’

The Lawyer for George Papadopoulos and Don Lemon Allegedly “Lied in a Sworn Affidavit” to Smear His Whistleblowing Black Former Partner.

*African American attorney, Don Lewis, a double Harvard graduate, has had his career destroyed and reputation forever stained by Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price and Hecht LLP (“Pierce Bainbridge”).

Putney Twombly Hall & Hirson LLP (Michael Yim) and Littler Mendelson PC (Sylvia Jeanine Conley) helped Pierce Bainbridge with the dirty work and are also being sued by Lewis.

The former partner says he was railroaded by a “racially charged sham investigation” and “unethical deceit.” Lewis says Pierce Bainbridge is “run by a liar,” Managing Partner, John Mark Pierce, who targeted Lewis as part of wide-ranging conspiratorial cover-up.

Lewis says Pierce has “infected the firm.” And it looks like he’s right. In the latest news, Lewis responded to a “sham complaint” against him in Los Angeles. Lewis says that Pierce Bainbridge partners Christopher N. LaVigne and Denver G. Edwards “are liars too.” Not minor issues. Not white lies. Not fibs. No, none of those, “they are material, deliberate and malicious lies meant to destroy my reputation and career,” according to Lewis. The alleged lies were made in sworn affidavits “secretly filed” under seal in May. The repercussions could be devastating. If the affidavits are in the required form, and if the Pierce Bainbridge partners did lie, then the New York Penal law on perjury could potentially come into play.

The Los Angeles filing is a bloodbath for the Pierce Bainbridge firm. The firm claimed that Lewis defamed them. Lewis said all along that was nonsense. He proved it was. Pierce Bainbridge pushed forward anyway. With the door propped open by Pierce Bainbridge itself, Lewis took full advantage. He included texts, e-mails, Slack messages and public records. The materials portray John Pierce and the Pierce Bainbridge firm in a breathtakingly poor light. Lewis drives a mack truck through the “endless stream of lies” in the firm’s Los Angeles Complaint. To any reasonable person, it seems overwhelmingly clear that the allegations of sexual misconduct against Lewis were made up; that Pierce, his General Counsel Carolynn K. Beck, and her friend Michael Yim, engaged in foul play. The trappings of a cover-up presented by Lewis are immensely strong.

Lewis exposes Pierce’s world and it is as ugly as can be. It appears Pierce used firm funds as his personal piggy bank, not just for luxury, but also just to live. Pierce, according to public records, has almost $1.5 million in tax liens since 2017. Pierce reportedly siphoned $200,000 of firm funds in two months; at one point when creditors were apparently not being paid. Pierce’s ex-wife, oddly, e-mailed Lewis about Pierce’s late alimony payments. The monthly obligation? A whopping $21,000. The firm’s bookkeeper reportedly said Pierce directed her, at times, to use firm funds to pay.

Pierce’s finances are not the only thing that appears to be a mess, it seems everything is. The LA Complaint said Lewis “defamed” Pierce Bainbridge by claiming “a partner” had issues with “substance abuse.” Lewis was forced to provide specifics, and he did. Several staff members have opined – in writing – about Pierce’s problems with the bottle. Pierce was apparently awol from work, and LaVigne opined – in writing – Pierce was “probably deep in the sauce and coke.” Pierce’s personal assistant, Lauren Schaefer-Green called Pierce – in writing – a “SAD FU*KIN’ ALCOHOLIC.” On top of this, Pierce appears to have zero respect for women, he refers – in writing – to “chicks” who are “fuc*ing whack jobs,” “psycho females,” “blackmailers” and praised verbally abusive and sexist treatment of female attorneys.

Lewis says, “Pierce tried to ruin me, and his lackeys LaVigne and Edwards got behind him.” LaVigne’s and Edwards’ apparent misconduct was not garden-variety. The alleged lies in the sworn affidavits, if true, should be keeping them both up nights. Lewis says: “There is no ‘if true’, it’s 100% true, I have both of them dead to rights.”

Edwards was recently nominated to the Board of Trustees of Middlebury College. The beautiful college is known for Honesty & Integrity, Edwards appears to have neither. As for LaVigne, he represented George Papadopoulos leading up to his 12-day prison stint for lying to investigators; Don Lemon of CNN is also a client.

LaVigne works alongside television personality Caroline Polisi. Their partner Eric Creizman has suggested that LaVigne and Polisi are both beneath him.

As for Pierce, a former partner called the firm’s Managing Partner – in writing – “a narcissistic sociopath.” LaVigne called Pierce – in writing – a “lunatic.” The firm’s bookkeeper said – in writing – “Fiduciary duty means nothing to [Pierce].” Even with that background, LaVigne and Edwards appear to have gone all in to play on Team Pierce. Which begs the question: What’s in it for them? Was it just to keep the paychecks coming? Something more? Why risk everything for that guy?

Whatever the case may be, it appears that Lewis, the only black partner at the time, was railroaded by racism, desperation and greed. Lewis noted “My court-filed papers tell a clear, fact-based, and documented story. Pierce Bainbridge is a den of dysfunction and deceit. I was set up.”

“The courts are about to get more involved. I look forward to it. The truth will rise to the top.”
