Don Cheadle and Regina Hall Talk ‘Black Monday’ & Bad 80’s Fashion at Showtime FYC Event

*The hit Showtime series “Black Monday” has been picked up for a second season.

The show stars Don Cheadle, Regina Hall, Andrew Rannells and Paul Scheer as employees of a Wall Street trading firm in the year leading up to the 1987 stock market crash nicknamed “Black Monday.”

It’s the story of how a group of outsiders took on the blue-blood, old-boys club of Wall Street and ended up crashing the world’s largest financial system, a Lamborghini limousine and the glass ceiling.

Season one featured ruthless power trader Maurice Monroe ( Cheadle) attempting to navigate loyalties and power while dealing with his colleagues which include, unresolved love interest Dawn      (Hall) the ambitious head trader at Mo’s firm who is extremely aware that the odds stacked against her as a Black woman on Wall Street and Mo’s protégé Blair (Rannells)

The cast attended Showtime’s “For Your Consideration” Emmy event this week. EURweb’s Jill Munroe spoke with Cheadle – who is also an executive producer on the series – Hall, Rannells, Scheer and Co-star Casey Wilson about season one and their love of Regina Hall.

Wilson said her favorite episode of season 1 is the episode that goes into Regina Hall’s character Dawn’s backstory.

“We get to experience going through a day in her world” says Wilson, “and what she’s seeing.”

Hall said one of the most fun things about the character Dawn are the 80’s fashion choices, including the terrible hairbows that Dawn frequently rocks with the huge shoulder pad ensembles. Of course Hall always has a little fun with her answers and gave a classic reply about why the fashion worked so well for her.

“The fashions were a part of it” Hall said,  “I’ve never worn more bows in my life. And I’ve worn them poorly. I have to say Dawn’s bow choices are terrible.” I love the music too. I was a big fan of the music from the 80’s. The hair was fun… I got to eat a lot because they also had belts and shoulder pads”
