*It’s not surprising that “Aquaman” brought in almost $300 million from ticket sales overseas before the film opened here in the US. When I was in Paris, France last week, Jason Momoa was making his presence known on Kiosks throughout the city. The spectacular, mind blowing epic adventure takes on a whole new realm—that of the underwater world of the seven seas. “Aquaman,” not only a cinematic visual feast, but it’s loaded with food for thought.
Aquaman” is the origin story of half-human, half Atlantean Arthur Curry (Momoa) who goes on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but determine if he is worthy of his birthright…that of king. Before claiming his crown, Curry has a face-off with half brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson). Wilson does have street creds—he went toe to toe with Samuel L. Jackson in “Lakeview Terrace.” Jackson objected to Wilson being married to Kerry Washington.
Directed by James Wan, the film also stars Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul–Mateen II, Michael Beach, Willem Dafoe, and Ludi Lin. Check out interviews with cast members here at EURweb.com and more pictures at: Facebook.com/TheFilmStripTM
‘Mary Poppins Returns’
“Mary Poppins Returns” and has not lost its charm. The film is set in the 1930s depression-era London just as the first, but Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane Banks (Emily Mortimer) are now grown. Michael has three children so the stage is set for the enigmatic nanny Marry Poppins (Emily Blunt) to once again enter the lives of the Banks family. Another addition to the story is street lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda).

To say “Mary Poppins Returns” is family fun at its finest would be an understatement. All members of the family will delight in this musical and be swept away by the ever-endearing songs and dance numbers. Homage is paid to old-timer Dick Van Dyke, who kicks up his heals as Mr. Dawes Jr. [Van Dyke was Mr. Dawes Senior in “Mary Poppins”].
Directed and produced by Rob Marshall, it also stars Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and features Angela Lansbury. The film, which introduces three
‘Welcome to Marwen’
Based on a true story, “Welcome to Marwen” juxtaposes real life characters and animated ones. “Marwen,” with its doll like players—but a movie not meant for children—is the heart-wrenching story of Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell), who suffered a brutal attack that left him with no memories of the past. Bogancamp, who liked to wear stiletto heels, was not expected to recover.
MY ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLE: I’VE GOT THE POWER
On his road to recovery, Hogancamp meticulously puts together exceptional art pieces and dolls in an astonishing installation that represents a Belgium town called Marwen. There, he can heal and be heroic. Included in his collection, are the powerful women he knows that are crucial to his rehabilitation.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis, “Marwen” also stars Leslie Mann, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Zemeckis, Eiza Gonzalez, Merritt Wever, Falk Hentschel, and Gwendoline Christie.
