EURweb hit the green carpet for the world premiere of “GRINGO” in Los Angeles. The film stars David Oleyowo (“Selma”) as Mild-mannered U.S. businessman Harold Soyinka, who finds himself kidnapped and being held for $5 million, while at the mercy of backstabbing colleagues, local drug lords and a black ops mercenary after traveling to Mexico on business to manufacture a legal cannabis pill.
The script originally called for a white male lead, but after reading the script Oleyowo suggested that Harold be a naïve Nigerian immigrant, which adds a different layer to the film.
With both medicinal and recreational marijuana legal in many states, we asked celebrities to share their thoughts on a future “weed pill.” Jill Munroe talked to “The Real’s” Loni Love, “Black Lightening’s Nafessa Williams, “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy’s” Karamo Brown.
Loni shared her experience of accidently eating a chocolate chip weed cookie. The adventure started with a trip to a friend’s house who liked to bake edibles. The Emmy winning host said she was high for three days and plans to stick with brown liquor.

Karamo said he likes to be in his right mind, so he’s not interested in weed pills, but back in his college days, the conversation would be different.
Nafessa Williams, who plays the role of Anissa Pierce, aka Thunder on the CW’s “Black Lightening” spoke with us about the importance of playing the first black, lesbian super hero on TV. In talking about her role, she said
“it’s an honor to be a role model for little brown girls and young black lesbian women everywhere. So many girls didn’t have a super hero that looked like them growing up. It’s super exciting that now on network TV, we’re given that vison.”
“Gringo” also stars Charlize Theron, Thandie Newton, Joel Edgerton and more. It’s in theaters this Friday, March 9.
