Kenan Thompson Says Kanye Held ‘SNL’ Cast ‘Hostage’: ‘He Voiced His Opinion Very Loudly’

*Veteran ‘SNL’ star Kenan Thompson has spilled some insider tea on what went down at the end of the season premiere with Kanye West on the stage.

Thompson told Seth Meyers on “Late Night” Monday that he “felt so bad” for his castmates, “Because it’s hard to stand there and not be able to debate somebody who’s going so far against your personal opinion.”

Kanye was the musical guest for the night and after performing his third song, the rapper closed the show with a pro-Trump rant after the credits rolled and the cameras stopped.

“When I share my opinion, one thing I try not to do is say, ‘Come on up, everyone. Come join me,’” Meyers joked.

“’You all disagree with me, right?’” Thompson added. “’Come up here. Join me while I do this.’”

“And then when you saw what happened, were you so happy with the choice you’d made?” Meyers asked.

“For sure. Yes,” Thompson replied. “As soon as he said, ‘Hey, join me up on stage, everybody,’ I was like, ‘Oh, there goes the little cheese in the mousetrap. It’s goin’ down.’”

As TooFab reported, the cast did they stick around… one by one, they filed off the stage as Ye continued his speech. Kenan also noted that he had already “happily” left for the night.

A source close to the show told People that West “made it uncomfortable for the cast” by not giving them a heads-up before his speech, per The Huffing Post.

“It’s so many times that I talk to a white person about this, and they say, ‘How could you support Trump? He’s racist.’ Well if I was concerned about racism, I would have moved out of America a long time ago,” West said as part of his rant.“We don’t just make our decisions off of racism. I’ma break it down to you right now: If someone inspires me and I connect with them, I don’t have to believe in all they policies.”

While Kenan agrees that everyone is “entitled to our opinion” — when it comes to West’s political post-show speech: “I don’t know if that’s the moment, necessarily, to hold people hostage like that,” he said.
